The Importance of the Piano in Teaching Musical Elements and Its Impact on the Components of a Child's Personality in the Basic Education Stage

Abstract

This study investigates the pivotal role of the piano in teaching core musical elements—such as melody, rhythm, and harmony—and evaluates its impact on the developmental components of a child's personality (physical, cognitive, emotional, and social) during the basic education stage. Using a descriptive-analytic content methodology, the study designs and analyzes proposed applied piano exercises aligned with the foundational curriculum of the Music Education Department at the Faculty of Education, Misurata University. The findings demonstrate that utilizing the piano significantly enhances students' musical perception, solfège skills (reading and notation), and vocal performance (listening and memorization), while simultaneously fostering holistic personality development. The paper concludes with key pedagogical recommendations, emphasizing the necessity of equipping basic education schools with pianos and integrating structured keyboard-based music curricula to optimize cognitive and creative learning outcomes.
