The problem of the relationship between development and the culture existing in society

Abstract

The research problem lies in the limitations of some development efforts, despite their breadth, due to incompatibility with prevailing cultural values or the absence of a supportive environment for the new culture. This raises questions about the nature of the relationship between culture and development and how to achieve harmony between them to ensure sustainable development. The research aimed to understand the nature of the relationship between culture and development in society, the reasons for the discrepancy between official perceptions of development and what individuals expect based on their culture and daily experiences, and to propose new approaches to community awareness aimed at disseminating a flexible and balanced development culture. The importance of the research stems from highlighting the close relationship between culture and development, and the role of values and societal behaviors in the success or failure of development efforts. It also helps in understanding the cultural factors influencing development policies, thus contributing to providing insights that can be used in formulating development programs. The researcher adopted a descriptive methodology and relied on obtaining information and facts from library sources such as references and other sources. The study concluded that culture determines the direction of development before it begins, as it became clear that society cannot move towards development unless its values and perceptions of work and change are consistent with this goal, and that development gradually reshapes culture over time, and that development moves to change people’s way of thinking and lifestyles, and that development and culture influence each other, and that developing awareness is part of the development process itself, and that the balance between authenticity and renewal is a basic requirement, and that development needs to be open to the world.
