        Abstract

        This paper examines the influence of lightning discharges on electric power systems, analyzing the resulting overvoltage's on overhead transmission lines and substation insulation. By evaluating the withstand characteristics of air gaps and insulator materials through computer simulations, the work outlines insulation coordination principles, including a suitable coordination margin to minimize damage and improve system reliability.
