This study investigated the difficulties encountered by graduating students in conducting statistical analysis for their graduation projects at the Faculty of Education, University of Benghazi. It also examined potential differences in student perceptions attributed to age and academic specialization. A descriptive-analytical research design was employed. Data were collected using a validated and reliable 25-item questionnaire distributed to a random sample of 112 graduating students selected from a total population of 158 students during the fall semester of the 2024–2025 academic year. The questionnaire comprised five main dimensions: understanding basic statistical concepts, applying statistical tests, interpreting statistical results, technical and practical execution using statistical tools, and academic support and training. Descriptive and inferential statistical analyses revealed that technical and practical difficulties in using statistical tools were the most prominent, followed by challenges related to academic support and training, application of statistical tests, interpretation of results, and lastly, comprehension of basic statistical concepts. Independent samples t-tests indicated no statistically significant overall differences in difficulty levels attributable to age or academic specialization (α = 0.05). However, significant differences were observed within specific dimensions: older students (≥25 years) reported greater difficulty in understanding basic statistical concepts, while humanities students experienced higher technical and practical difficulties compared to science majors. The study recommends equipping computer laboratories with advanced statistical packages such as SPSS, integrating modern interactive teaching methodologies, providing specialized training workshops, and revising curricula to emphasize practical applications.
