    Abstract

    Drilling fluid serves as the critical backbone of oil well drilling operations, playing a vital role in primary well control, lifting rock cuttings to the surface, and cooling both the drill pipe and bit. This research evaluates the direct impact of weighting materials on the properties of drilling fluids, while also addressing the economic factors involved in selecting the most suitable additives. A comprehensive review of previous literature was conducted to analyze the most effective materials, identify the environmental and health hazards associated with certain toxic additives, and compare their overall influence on fluid characteristics. Additionally, practical laboratory experiments were performed to investigate how variations in fluid density affect rheological properties and sand content. These tests were carried out using standard laboratory equipment, including a mud balance, Fann V-G meter, Marsh funnel, and a retort kit for solid content analysis.
